Before You Fill Out a Division I Questionnaire
D1 staffs run the most systematized recruiting operations in college softball. Your questionnaire feeds a database that assistant coaches cross-reference against camp rosters, tournament schedules, and video — it is the index card that makes everything else findable.
The questionnaire is step one of the camps-and-ID-events pipeline
D1 programs evaluate almost exclusively at their own camps, ID clinics, and major tournaments. Submit the questionnaire BEFORE registering for a program's camp — staffs pull camp rosters against their database, and a recruit who is already in the system gets watched on purpose instead of discovered by accident.
Early contact rules make the questionnaire your only early channel
NCAA rules bar D1 coaches from recruiting communication with you until September 1 of your junior year. Questionnaires are exempt — submitting one as a freshman or sophomore is always allowed and is the main way underclassmen legally get on a D1 radar before contact opens.
List verified measurables only
D1 staffs will check your numbers at camp with their own radar guns and stopwatches. An exit velocity or home-to-first time that does not hold up in person costs you more credibility than a modest, verified number ever would.
Update it around the September 1 contact date
Refresh your questionnaire (new video, summer schedule, updated GPA) in the weeks before September 1 of your junior year. Staffs work their database hard right when contact opens — a current profile is what turns the date into actual phone calls.
How to Fill It Out Right
Have your GPA, grad year, positions, verified measurables, video link, and club coach contacts ready before you open Arizona State's form — then send the staff a short intro email referencing your submission. Our full guide covers what questionnaires ask, how NCAA Division I staffs actually use your answers, and the mistakes that waste the form.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Arizona State University have a softball recruiting questionnaire?
Yes. Arizona State University, a NCAA Division I program competing in the Big 12 out of Tempe, AZ, accepts prospective student-athlete information through an official recruiting questionnaire hosted by the school. Submitting it puts your grad year, positions, academics, and video in the recruiting database used by head coach Megan Bartlett and the coaching staff.
Should I email the Arizona State coaches before or after filling out the questionnaire?
Fill out the questionnaire first, then email. Megan Bartlett's staff, like most NCAA Division I programs, can look you up in their system when your email arrives — a message from a player who is already in the database carries more weight, and referencing your submission ("I completed your recruiting questionnaire on [date]") shows you have done your homework.
How long until a Arizona State coach responds after I submit?
Usually you will not get a personal reply to the questionnaire itself — it feeds Arizona State's recruiting database rather than the coach's inbox, and NCAA rules limit when NCAA Division I coaches may contact recruits directly (September 1 of junior year). Follow up with a short, personalized email to the staff, and update your questionnaire whenever your grades, measurables, or video change.
