Since 2025-26, NCAA D1 softball programs that opted into the House settlement can offer athletic aid across a roster capped at 25 players (the old limit was 12 scholarships) — though actual funding varies widely by program. In Wisconsin, competition for roster spots at D1 programs is intense, so building early relationships with coaches is essential.
Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center during your sophomore year. D1 softball coaches cannot initiate any recruiting contact — calls, texts, emails, or DMs — until September 1 of your junior year, so use the time before that to compete, build video, and submit questionnaires.
D1 coaches can begin recruiting communication and visits starting September 1 of your junior year. Since 2023 there is no cap on total official visits — you get one per school — so plan visits around programs where you have genuine mutual interest.
